La Manga Strip - A short drive/taxi/bus from CASA ERIKA, Estrella de Mar.

The La Manga Strip is a narrow piece of land approximately 21 Km long and 300 metres wide. It separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor inland saltwater lagoon. Puerto Tomás Maestre:
This is the largest Marina on the La Manga Strip and has some amazingly expensive yachts moored in it. It faces the Mar Menor side of the Strip, but has a canal with a lift bridge leading to the Mediterranean.
You can take a ferry back across the Mar Menor from here to Santiago de la Ribera which takes about 40 minutes.

Cabo de Palos:
Cabo de Palos is a small fishing port located at the start of the La Manga strip. It has a Light house and numerous bars and restaurants dotted about. The harbour area is busy in summer and quiet in winter. The Sunday market at Cabo de Palos is very popular and opens early at approximately 8.00 am and closes at approximately 3 pm. There are in excess of 100 stalls selling fruit, vegetables, clothes, shoes, bags, home wares and by mid morning is it buzzing. Cabo de Palos market really is a market for the local people and therefore prices are very reasonable indeed.

Diving in Cabo de Palos:
The La Manga coastline has a rich and unique blend of atlantic and mediterranean sea life where you can find moray eels, groupers, barracuda, rays, octopus, turtles and sunfish, along with countless types of colourful smaller fish. There are many amazing rock formations as well as wrecks, corals and reefs. Beginners can take half day or longer courses either to experience diving for the first time or as part of a course to become PADI certified. Sailing in La Manga:
Learn to sail or improve your technique on Europe's largest lagoon, the Mar Menor. The permanently warm waters and predictable winds provide perfect yachting conditions. Learn from an instructor in your boat or one provided by one of the sailing schools in the La Manga area. As an alternative to sailing learn to use a Kayak, available as singles and doubles. Our facilities are located near to the entrance of the La Manga strip and Cabo de Palos. We have three different circuits - Adult, Junior and Infant. The La Manga area has many bars and clubs. Everything from quiet coffee bars open all day to nightclubs open most of the night.
